Credit Union of Colorado

At Credit Union of Colorado, our members tell us year after year that our employees make us the best. Members count on us for great financial products and services…but even more, they count on us to be there for them as people—their friends, neighbors, members of their community.

We’re looking for true stories of members who rely on us for more than just a checking account. Please share with us any stories of experiences you’ve had with Credit Union of Colorado where our service went beyond the ordinary. For example, you may have invited one of our staff to a birthday party, high school graduation, christening, or retirement. Or maybe a CU of CO employee helped you find a new job, meet your fiance, fix a flat tire, open a new business, or get a loan to make that trip around the world. Maybe they just shared a cup of coffee with you when you were having a bad day.

Whatever your member story, please share it with us. Only your first name will be used, so your privacy is ensured.

I’m going to be a student at Mines in the fall. I wanted to have an account with a bank or credit union near the school, so I set up my account at the Credit Union of Colorado. What can I say? The people there are fantastic and made the whole process of getting settled in so easy! When I went apartment hunting, they helped me make sure that I was able to do everything I needed to do for downpayments and application fees (at the apartment) with a smile, even when things got manic for me. I know I’m at the right place, thank you!

    hi,

i wanted to take a moment to thank you all again for a job well done. i received a call on sunday from the fraud alert unit at the credit union- needless to say….a sunday morning phone call is always a tad bit disconncerting. however, i was MORE THAN HAPPY to take this call since it was about my account and some recent transactions. they were calling to verify that it was me that made those purchases. it was easy, efficient and convienent to work with the automated system prompts. more than anything, it was VERY comforting to know that the credit union has a system in place to monitor my account. just an example of another job well done by the credit union of colorado. thanks so much.

About a week ago our son’s truck was stolen. Since it was financed through CUOFCO we contacted Martha at the Greeley office. She was more than willing to do whatever she could to help, and when we purchased a different vehicle, she was so professional and helpful, she took the time we needed and got all the paperwork done very quickly so that our son could get his new vehicle. This whole situation has been very frustrating and stressful, but Martha’s help and kindness has helped tremendously, not only did she take care of the financial aspects, but she helped remind us that even though ugly things (like getting our vehicle stolen) happen, there are still good and caring people out there that are willing to help. Thank you Martha, you are greatly appreciated!

What can I say…………..year after year - the CSECU has offered some of the most helpful service I have ever had. Most recently when researching to purchase a new car- Mike Mcwhirt and Shannon Walch were awesome. They took the time to answers all the questions I had in a very courteous manner. They were patient and made me feel like a truly valued customer. In this day and age of technology and automated voice response - it is wonderful to have a company that still values the one to one personal relationship. Keep up the great work - you are appreciated!!!!

I have been a member since 1995. I have always said that the customer service of the Credit Union of Colorado had awesome customer services, both in my high times and low times, speaking financially. I almost never call the customer service line; instead I call Kim Bains because she is understanding, comforting and helpful. However, today i needed to ask a simple question . So, I called the customer service number to ask. I did not get the young lady’s name, and I wish I would have! She was very nice and told me that no, only US Bank has this partnership with Credit Union of Colorado. I said thank you and started to hang up when she said…”wait! Are you in Parker?” I said “yes”. She began by telling me about the new branch opening here, when and where. She even helped me navigate to the Web page describing the location. She was really nice and funny. I again started to hang up, and she stopped me to tell me “Our CEO (mentioned his name) knew you were living in Parker and knew you would need this service!”. I laughed, enjoyed her tounge and cheek approach and thought “wow, she really made me lighten up”. Then she went on to say, ” we really appreciate you having been a member since 1995, and hope you stay with us”. I thought - “Oh, I will never leave now! I can’t believe how good she made me feel!” Like many, my finances are not easy right now, her happiness was contagious. I truly appreciate that and Kim’s assistance over the years. It feels like a family. My whole family belongs to CU of CO and I quickly called my sister to tell her of what I great call I just had! What really makes this meaningful, I was a Training & Quality Manager for a Financial Services call center. I preached to my representatives to let the customer “hear your smile” when you’re talking with them, even if you are trying to collect. It was really hard for people to feel connected with their customers, and good service was hard to teach. This young lady, again wish i had gotten her name, was the embodiment of great customer service. I can tell you that she was working at 4:30 PM on Wednesday September 30th 2009. If you have a call tracking system maybe you can find out who she was and reward her appropriately. Personally, I think the CEO should thank her for her good words on his behalf. Please do let me know if who she is, this mysterious happy representative….

I have been a member of CUOFCO ( csecu) for 12 years. I have taken out many loans and paid them off. Don Hinzman was my go to person all these years. I went in today and was so said to discover that Don Hinzman is gone. He will be sadly missed my so many of us that have been members over the years.

  7. Ilene says:

Don Hinzman, in the Pueblo office, has handled our car loans for several years. He has always looked for the the best type of loan for us and made the process easy and convenient. He had gotten to know us and our financial needs and is always friendly and asks about the family. We are so appreciative of the service we get at the credit union.

In 2004 when I bought my home, there was a glich with my mortgage company. They took out an extra house payment when I was not expecting a house payment for the month. With a new house everyone knows there are some extra expenses. Luckily, I checked my account online and noticed I had almost a $1000 worth of pending transactions ready to bounce to the moon. I contacted the credit union the following morning at 7:45am in a panic, knowing that at 8am it would be a finacial disaster for me and my excellent credit score. The credit union representative suggested a share loan and within 10 minutes had $1000 in my checking account. WOW!!!! Thankfully he did that, the mortgage company did not refund my money for 2 1/2 months. Needless to say the Credit Union of CO’s customer service was a weeee bit better than the mortgage company!

  9. Brad says:

Sad thing happened today. I have been a member since 1996 in good standing. I have purchased numerous vehicles through the credit union. Today i applied for a loan and was told I have been deliquent on my mortgage. In a panic I called my lender, Country wide, and was told my mortgage payments were being held on their end. The money was to be released in 60 days. Country wide said, then my credit score would be fixed….and it wasn’t due to anything I did wrong. I called CSECU back and explained…..they said, sorry, your interest rate is set according to your credit score…. 15% interest! Here all this time I thought being part of a credit union meant something. Oh well, banking is banking and times are tough…..just too sad that I didn’t do anything wrong, I have to pay the price!

We have been with the CU since 1983..We have been very happy with the service we have received…I like the ease of applying for loans via the internet…We now have our Mortgage with the CU and was treated with great respect….That is very important to us….Everyone we have ever delt with have been GREAT……..THANKS!

I’ve been a member for over 30 years, with quality banking and personal service throughout. My four sons have taken advantage of loans, checking and savings accounts, always feeling we can trust the credit union to give us good rates, and service that meets our needs. We used to use the downtown branch, so knew only one or two people there, but since the Bear Valley Branch opened have done much of our business there. I have watched as the good people there have promoted (Yeah!) to other positions, and been replaced with more great people. Thanks, Chris (promoted to branch manager), Kelly (another promotion), and now Chuck (promoted to supervisor). All of these people have been both personally and professionally helpful. The current manager, another Chris, is always helpful, knowlegeable, and is well-liked by his employees. I cannot pay enough compliments to all of you!

  12. Tracey says:

We have been members of the credit union for many years and have always been so impressed with the employees. Recently our son got his own account (he’s 18) and was having some difficulty getting organized and keeping up with what was going out, and what he needed to put in. Martha sat down with him and explained a few things like how to balance his checkbook and the importance of always paying off his credit line , etc. Also, Sara has been very helpful with this, and both of these employees have worked hard over the years to help us with all our financial issues. They are far more than just good employees. They are kind and helpful, and I consider them friends, and greatly appreciate all they do. Thanks very much guys, your kind deeds haven’t gone unnoticed!

I was trying to figure out how to refinance my truck and get a lower interest rate so that I could prepare for the paying back of the dreaded student loans. Not only was I having to deal with student loans coming due but I had just gotten married and was having a horrible time at my current bank trying to get my name changed on all my accounts. People would think well that shouldnt take much but let me tell you after 30 days its still not done and I have not received my checks for the checking acct and just received the atm cards a few days ago. Well after several mess up’s at NEW FRONTIER BANK it was time to find a bank that was willing to go out of their way and help me out. I walked into the Credit Union of Colorado and spoke with Sara Staley about what my needs where and she jumped right on it and went the 100 extra miles it took to get everything taken care of. I refinanced my truck loan for far less interest than I was paying and was able to borrow enough to get all the credit cards paid off from years of having to use them to pay medical bills and other expenses. After talking with Sara and finding out what the bank could offer me now I currently have a checking account at the bank and will be talking to Sara again in February to transfer some IRA, to the Credit Union. People just dont undertand the important of taking the time with the customers no matter how much time it takes but Sara certainly did understand this and she took care of every fine detail. It was a great please to work with Sara at the Credit Union of Colorado in Greeley, Colorado and I will certainly be looking forward to working with her again and will recommend her to all my family and friends. Thanks for a great banking relationship.

My parents have been members for 20+ years at the credit union so when I started baby sitting and saved up enough money to open my first account ( as a minor ) the CU was the beginning of it all. Since then as a young adult I had my account closed with the CU ( I’m not ashamed to share because I learned from it ) and when I was ready to get my finances back in order I remembered Chris Hernandez, the guy who always helped my family and was always friendly. So, I called him up and explained my situation and he told me to come in and we would look everything over. Thanks to him he has helped me get back on track, learn about my credit score and get my finances back on track.

I just got married on August 10th but before then I convinced my husband to open an account at the CU because of everything they had done for me and not only did we open a joint account about a year ago, but the lady who helped us also helped us consolidate all of my husbands outstanding debt in one sitting with a lower interest rate. We left there astounded and he called his family he was so flabberghasted! (that’s not a lie!)

So before we got married we went back into the credit union and let them know so they could flag our accounts since we would be out of the country. And when we got back they helped us open CD’s that are the beginning to house down payments and hopefully a child(ren)’s college fund.

Every time we go into the credit union Chris Hernandez, Lynn and Susan have all asked me how I am, how my mother is, etc. It’s because of people like them and service that our family receives that we constantly recommend the credit union to other friends.

I started my journey there back when I was a preteen looking to my future and now my future has begun. I hope that my child(ren) that I may someday have will chose to continue with the credit union. You guys are amazing! Thanks for everything! :)

In 2006 Taryn at the Credit Union in Fort Collins worked extremely hard to help me refinance my home. All went well and I could not have done it without the help of the Credit Union. I have been a member for many years, and would never consider banking anywhere else. Hats off to the staff of Credit Union of Colorado!!

Tonya at the grand junction branch has been saving grace to me over the years. She has helped me so many times with every aspect of my accounts with the credit union.
    Thank you Tonya
I only owe you about 100 lunches for all the help

  17. sharon says:

I have been a credit union member for many years. I would like to thank Tonya at the grand junction branch for
all the years she has helped me with anything I had questions about. She has gone out of her way many times to give assistancec and help when needed. She is a class A employee. I have never taken her to lunch but if I did I would need to take her about 100 times for all she has helped me with over the years.
    Hoorah for Tonya

I have copied the email that I sent to Morgan Townsend after she helped my wife and I open a new account. I am moving all of our banking from the old Norlarco, now PSCO, to CUofCO and Morgan made the entire transaction very easy……Thank her for me!

    Good Afternoon Morgan,

I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you how much I appreciated your skill and excellent customer service last Friday when you set up our new account. I remarked to Linda on the way back to the truck that if I worked in town “I’d get that lady a rose”.

So if some time in the future if a rose shows up on your desk you’ll know I was off work and in town saying thanks!!!

I don’t know any of the executives there at the credit union to copy this email to about your great customer service, so I’d like to ask you to pass this on to your manager for me, please.

    Thank you very much,

    John G.

I was my 25th birthday, I was nine months pregnant and went to the ATM to get $350 cash for my bills. After getting the cash I placed it in an envelope and forgot it on the counter. When I got home and went to give my husban dour money I realized what I had done. I called the credit union in Fort Collins and notified them. The manager (I don’t know her name?) went above and beyond by staying passed hours and reviewing the tape to see who took it. She reconized the member and phoned them to please return the money. I recieved my money back the next day!

  20. Jean D. says:

It was hot and I was tired and thirsty and even though I twisted and twisted with my old almost useless hands as I sat outside CUofCO on W. 6th in Lakewood, I couldn’t get my plastic water bottle open. Well, no problem. I went inside, walked up to the receptionist, and said, ‚CUofCO’s a full-service institution, isn’t it?

“Oh yes, she said, we have‚”

But I didn’t let her finish. I handed her my water bottle and said,”Then you’ll probably be able to open this for me.

That young lady’s face broke into the biggest, friendliest smile I’ve ever seen, and so did the faces of all the good folks standing in line.

So why is CUofCO my money place of choice? We’re family.

We have banked with the downtown CU for over 25 years, we have had the opportunity to work with several CU employees. While you have truly excellent employees I would like to comment on a loan officer, Laura Romero-Ruiz. She always goes above and beyond the her regular duties. She has helped us with so many loan transactions, it would take too much time to jot them all down. She always return phone calls, if we have a question, she quickly directs us to the person who can answer it, and so many times she just says , “I take care of it and get back with you”, She exemplifies a dedicated employee who always has the CU member at heart. It is because of her excellent customer services that we do all our banking business with the CU. If you do employee appreciation, she truly deserves to be commended thanks Jim & Nacy

In November 2005 my husband passed away very usexpectedly and I had to change me credit union accounts. So in December I went to my credit union office to have my checking and savings accounts transfered into my name. The officer who helped me was so generous with her time and very patient and understanding. Because of her help a very difficult task was made easier and I will always thank her for that.

  23. Jeremiah M. says:

You guys are great ten times better than Wells Fargo I wish you had small business account options.

  24. Daniel says:

I have been a member at the Greeley office for about 35 years. I have nothing but praise for the folks there! a couple times I have had financial problems and they bent over backwards to hep me remedy the situation.Keep up the great work!!

  25. Christine says:

I wouldn’t bank anywhere else! Credit Union of Colorado employees have always gone out of their way to assist us over the years, no matter what our needs are! We have done several loans with them, have a debit and credit card with them and they were most helpful earlier this year when someone was fraudulenly using our debit card. I just wish all businesses that we deal with would run as smoothly and professionally as CU of CO!! Keep up the GREAT work!!!

  26. Paul says:

In the spring of 2002 I placed a bill in my mailbox, put up the flag as outgoing mail.
I ‘ve done this for years. I had a check stolen and washed and re-cashed at the local grocery store.
The staff at the Meadowlark bank notified me that the funds had been returned to me and the perpitraitor
apprehended. The staff basically went out of there way to help me set up a new account and close out all my old credit and debit cards.

In Jan. of 2008 I used my debit card at the ATM in Golden,Colorado. I drove away, forgeting to retreive my card from the ATM. The ATM kept it. This was like the second time, I did the same thing. One teller Crystal, a really pleasant ladie(Give Her a Raise!) helped me by re-issuing me a new card and giving me a temp. card for those days when I have a senior moment again. This is why all my Banking is at CUof Colorado! Paul

  27. Rachel says:

I am in the Navy and am currently stationed overseas. When I first got overseas and traveled with my ship I used my debit card in Japan. CU of CO contacted me to check up and make sure that it was me using the card in foreign countries. I appreciated the fact that they cared enough to call me when they saw something a little unusual.
